Skin Booster Treatment: What Happens, Before/After, and Recovery
Skin Booster Treatment: What Happens, Before/After, and Recovery
Most clients who book a skin booster with us aren’t chasing a dramatic change. They want their skin to look like it does on a good morning, every morning. Softer, more reflective, less makeup needed to feel finished.
If you’ve been reading about skin boosters and trying to work out whether they’re right for you, here’s exactly what the experience looks like at Beauty Science, from the first appointment through to the result you’ll see in your mirror six weeks later.
What a skin booster actually is
A skin booster is a series of microinjections of stabilised hyaluronic acid placed just under the surface of the skin. Unlike a dermal filler, the goal isn’t to add volume or change shape. The product spreads through the dermis and works as a kind of internal hydrator, drawing water into the tissue and supporting your skin’s own collagen activity over time.
The result reads as glow. Smoother texture, finer pores, a healthier bounce when you press a fingertip into your cheek. People notice you look well rested. They usually can’t pinpoint why.
What happens during the appointment
Your first visit runs about 45 to 60 minutes. Here’s the flow:
- Consult and skin assessment. We talk through your concerns, your skincare routine, and what you want the result to feel like. Photos in standard lighting so we can compare later.
- Cleanse and numb. A topical anaesthetic sits on the skin for around 20 minutes. By the time we start, the area is properly settled.
- Injections. Tiny deposits placed in a pattern across the treatment area, usually the cheeks, jawline, neck, or the back of the hands. Most clients describe it as small pinches rather than pain.
- Aftercare brief. We send you home with written instructions and a follow-up booking around four weeks out.
You can drive yourself home. You can return to work, though some clients prefer to schedule treatment for a Friday so they have the weekend.
A skin booster is one of the few treatments where the result genuinely keeps improving for weeks after you leave the clinic.

What you’ll look like immediately after
Honest answer: a little blotchy. You’ll see small raised bumps at each injection point. These are the product itself sitting where it was placed, and they settle within four to 24 hours.
Some redness, occasional pinpoint bruising, and mild swelling are normal in the first day or two. Makeup goes back on after 24 hours, and most clients feel comfortable being seen in public the next morning.
The before-and-after timeline
What’s worth understanding is that skin boosters don’t show their best work on day one. The hyaluronic acid needs time to integrate and your skin needs time to respond.
- Week 1: Initial bumps settle. Skin feels slightly plumper and more hydrated.
- Week 2 to 3: Texture starts improving. Makeup sits better. Foundation needs less work.
- Week 4 to 6: The full result. Skin looks lit from within, fine lines soften, and that glassy quality everyone wants becomes visible.
- Month 3 onwards: Results plateau and gradually fade over four to six months.
For best outcomes, we usually recommend a course of two or three sessions spaced about four weeks apart, with maintenance every six months.
Recovery and what to avoid
Recovery is mild but not zero. For the first 24 hours, keep your skincare simple, sleep on your back if you can, and avoid touching the treated area. For the first 48 hours:
- No makeup on the treated zone
- No active ingredients (retinol, AHAs, vitamin C serums)
- No heavy exercise, saunas, or hot yoga
- No facials, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments for two weeks
- No alcohol on the day of treatment, since it tends to worsen bruising
Drink plenty of water. Your skin is going to make use of every drop.
When to get in touch
Mild redness, swelling, and bruising are expected. If you notice prolonged tenderness, lumps that haven’t softened after a week, or anything that feels off, message the clinic. Our practitioners would rather check in early than have you sit at home wondering.
Is a skin booster right for you?
Skin boosters suit clients with dehydrated or dull skin, fine crepiness, visible pores, or that washed-out look that no amount of moisturiser fixes. They pair well with regular skincare and can sit alongside other treatments in a longer-term plan.
They’re not a quick fix the day before a wedding. Book at least six weeks ahead of an event if you want to look your best in photographs.
If you’re ready to talk through whether a skin booster is the right next step for your skin, book a consultation with Beauty Science. We’ll map out a plan that suits your skin, your timeline, and the result you actually want.
