How HIFU facials work

The non-surgical facelift

At Beauty Science, we use the Liftera HIFU machine, designed and developed by Korean medi-aesthetic leaders, Asterasys. This medical-grade (ARTG #393230) device precisely converts ultrasound energy into heat, allowing us to target skin tissue at the optimal depths while not impacting the surface layer of skin. Through controlled thermal energy, we can heat collagen fibres within the deeper layers of your skin, where focused ultrasound waves rapidly diffuse, helping significantly renew collagen and tighten tissue without skin trauma or pain. The results will begin to be revealed for up to 6 months following your treatment.

All skin types can be treated with HIFU, and there’s no downtime. There may be some mild tenderness for a few days following your treatment, however, you shouldn’t need to change your daily routine. 

What does HIFU actually do?

High-intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU, is a non-surgical treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to increase collagen production in the skin to help tighten and rejuvenate the skin. This works by using a HIFU machine to apply high-frequency sound waves to the target area, which emits heat into the deep layers of the skin, which helps increase collagen production. As we age, our bodies start to produce less collagen, which decreases the elasticity and firmness of our skin, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. So, by increasing the collagen in the skin, it can help leave the skin firmer with a more youthful appearance.

How long does HIFU last?

With a full course of treatments and proper on-going skin care, you can see results from HIFU for up to one to two years. To experience the most from this treatment, it is recommended you undergo three treatments one month apart, and book in for a maintenance treatment every six months or so. The results have been described as a facelift without the surgery, with no downtime and minimal, if any, discomfort during treatment. 

Is one session of HIFU enough?

While you can see results from a HIFU after just one treatment, it is recommended you have three treatments one month apart to see the full effects. An extra 2 treatments three months apart will be needed for those 50 years and over. The results also continue to ‘get better’ for up to six months after your treatments as your collagen production increases.

How safe is a HIFU treatment?

HIFU, or high-intensity focused ultrasound, is considered a safe treatment with minimal risks. It should also be avoided if you had recent facial threads, dental inplants or dermal fillers, if you are pregnant, or if you have open sores or lesions on your face.
