Skin Booster Aftercare: The 2-Week Rules, And What To Avoid
Skin Booster Aftercare: The 2-Week Rules, And What To Avoid
You’ve just had your skin booster appointment. Your skin might feel a little tender, you can see small bumps where the product was injected, and you’ve got a list of instructions you half-remember from the chair.
Here’s the thing about skin boosters, whether you’ve had Profhilo, Rejuran, or a Glass Skin Facial. The injection itself takes twenty minutes. The result takes two weeks to settle. And what you do in those two weeks decides how good your skin actually looks at the end of it.
After thirty years of treating Melbourne skin, we’ve seen the same handful of aftercare mistakes again and again. Most are honest, not reckless. A gym session because you felt fine. A facial booked before the booster because your calendar was tight. A long sauna at the weekend.
This guide walks you through the rules that genuinely matter, the ones we give every Richmond client when they leave our clinic.
The first 24 hours: settle, don’t disturb
The product needs to sit where your injector placed it. Anything that moves blood, heat, or pressure through the treated area in the first day works against that.
Skip in the first 24 hours:
✓ Makeup of any kind on the treated zones
✓ Workouts, hot yoga, or anything that makes you sweat properly
✓ Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or spa pools
✓ Touching, rubbing, or massaging the area
✓ Alcohol, which thins blood and worsens any bruising
You can wash your face gently after six to twelve hours with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry. No scrubbing, no flannel, no electric brush. If you see small bumps under the skin, leave them. They settle on their own as the product integrates.

Days 2 to 7: build the routine back slowly
By day two, the surface should look close to normal. Mild redness or a faint bruise is common and resolves on its own. You can reintroduce light makeup if you need to, using clean brushes and gentle pressure.
What still needs to wait:
✓ Active skincare like retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, BHAs, or any acid-based exfoliant
✓ Facials, peels, microneedling, IPL, or laser treatments
✓ Waxing, threading, or electrolysis on or near the treated area
✓ Heavy exercise that brings the face to a flush
Stick to a simple routine for the week. A gentle cleanser, a hydrating moisturiser, and SPF 50+ every morning. Australian sun is the single biggest enemy of any injectable result, and Melbourne UV is stronger than most people give it credit for, even on overcast days.
“The clients who follow the simple rules in week one almost always get a better end result than the ones who try to optimise everything.”
Days 8 to 14: protect the result you’re paying for
This is where most people relax too early. The product is still actively remodelling collagen and elastin in your skin during the second week. It looks settled, but underneath it’s still working.
Two things still apply through to day 14:
- No heat extremes. No saunas, no ice baths, no solariums, no long beach days without proper shade
- No clinical skin treatments. That means no other injectables, no laser, no peels, no skin needling
If you’ve booked a follow-up Profhilo session, it’s usually scheduled at the four-week mark. Don’t bring it forward, and don’t skip it. Skin boosters work in a course, not a one-off.
For Melbourne clients planning weddings, events, or holidays, we always recommend completing your full course at least two to three weeks before the date. That way your skin has time to show its best.
When to call us
Most aftercare goes smoothly. But contact the clinic straight away if you notice:
✓ Pain that increases after day two instead of fading
✓ Redness that spreads beyond the injection points
✓ A hard, hot, or tender lump that doesn’t soften within a week
✓ Any sign of infection, fever, or unusual discolouration
We’d rather see you for a quick review than have you worry at home.
